*Volunteer Day for SW 15th Street Beautification*

*DEERFIELD BEACH –  *The City of Deerfield Beach is delighted to announce
that Saturday, September 6, 2014, will be the official Volunteer Day for
the *SW 15th Street Beautification Project Dedicated to Fallen Navy SEAL,
Petty Officer Second Class James Suh*.  This event will take place from
8:00AM – 12:00PM.  It is exciting to mention that as the project has
developed Deerfield Beach High School faculty, alumni, city staff members
and residents have expressed a desire to help in some capacity.  In
addition, our friends at Home Depot of Deerfield Beach and People’s Trust
Insurance, have pledged a number of volunteers to help us along, on top of
their already monetary donations and project supplies.

Volunteers will assist in a multitude of tasks including planting flowers,
laying sod and other landscaping.  If you are interested in participating
in this community effort to beautify SW 15th Street please report to
Deerfield Beach High School located at 910 SW 15th St, on Saturday,
September 6th at 7:30 AM.  Parking for all volunteers will be available in
the high school parking lot or at the lot next door to the Fire Station
located at 1441 SW 11th Way.

Nearly one year ago Vice Mayor Ben Preston and several City of Deerfield
Beach staff sat down with DBHS Principal, Jon Marlow and talked about
beautifying the grounds outside of the *only* High School in the City.  The
plans included new trees, signage, monuments and flags.  With a shortage of
funds the plan to beautify SW 15th Street from Dixie Highway to 11th Way
has been an ambitious one from the very beginning. Vice Mayor Preston
refused to take “No” for an answer and on September 6, 2014 the Deerfield
Beach residents will see his vision come closer to completion.  The project
will be dedicated to Fallen Navy SEAL and Deerfield Beach Alumni James
Suh.  A memorial will be unveiled in his honor on Veterans Day, November
11, 2014.

We ask that volunteers wear closed-toe shoes or work boots and bring work
gloves as we will be doing plenty of planting.  Volunteers should also wear
plenty of sunscreen and/or a hat for protection from the sun.  The City
will have plenty of water & Gatorade available and lunch will be provided.
The City and Vice Mayor Ben Preston are humbled by the outpouring of
support and excitement over this project and we hope to see a huge turnout
on September 6th.
