Summary Commissioner Ganz District 4 Meeting

Monday, February 10th

Parks & Recreation Department is in charge of landscaping that is done by
City employees while some of it is done by outside companies.  Military
Trail along Century Village north of SW10th Street is being done by City
employees - and we were promised they will be finishing this area.  Resident
complimented the outside company's work on the median along Hillsboro Blvd.

Rebecca Medina, Public Information Officer, spoke on "HOT SPOTS" a new area
on the City's web site.  They video and showcase areas in the City - such as
the beach, pier and local restaurants.  She also reminded everyone to sign
up for news alerts on the web site.

The complete renovation of Sullivan Park has been approved and funds from
the CRA will be used.  The ball fields next to Quiet Waters school are
almost completed.  

Contract for the street re-paving project, which started in West Deerfield,
has been approved for Deer Run - start date has not yet been set.

The City is in the process of having the brown trash containers number coded
to be able to track the zones and update schedules if needed.

A number of new businesses and development have been approved for the area
at Super Target on Hillsboro and Powerline.

Broward Sheriff's Office reported a large downturn in crime in West
Deerfield.  He asked all residents to be on the lookout for suspicious
activity and to report it to BSO.  He explained when calling the
non-emergency number the dispatcher will ask a number of questions to be
able to provide information to the Officer that will be responding.

Chief Rusty Sievers is the new BSO Fire Chief for the City was introduced.

A representative from Planet Air Sports was there and talked about the
fabulous arena for people age 6 and up.  They are located on Green Road
between Military Trail and Powerline Road.  A flyer is attached to this
e-mail.

Deerfield Beach Women's Club is developing a new program which will meet in
the evenings.  There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, Feb 19th
at 7:30.  A flyer with web sites is attached to this e-mail.  This group was
established in 1919 and does some fabulous  volunteer work in our City.
