Rapa Nui Reef Making Waves in Deerfield Beach

A new and unique dive site is taking its place at the bottom of the ocean in
Deerfield Beach, Florida on June 7, 2015. The man-made reef will be an
underwater sculptural environment for divers to explore and marine life to
inhabit. The Rapa Nui Reef is expected to quickly become an international
dive sensation.

About Rapa Nui
Rapa Nui are the native Polynesian inhabitants of Easter Island. The
artistic reef serves as a tribute to the stone figures (Moai) on that remote
island. The 15 Moai, ranging from heights of six to 22 feet, are displayed
over concrete structures organized to facilitate the growth of marine life.
The entire sculpture is affixed to a 150' by 45' by 9' steel barge to allow
for stability, transportation and sinking. This new reef will be sunk in 70
feet of water between the second and third reef directly off of the
Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier.

The City of Deerfield Beach, the Women's Club of Deerfield Beach, Dixie
Divers and benefactor Margaret Blume would like to invite the media and the
public to a weekend long celebration that concludes with the sinking of the
mighty Rapa Nui Reef. Below is the scheduled list of events to celebrate
this momentous occasion. Media instructions are also included for those who
are interested in photo opportunities with the Moai before they are sunk and
press coverage of the actual sinking of the barge.
