Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is conducting this Public Hearing to discuss proposed improvements for State Road 5/US 1 from Sample Road to the Palm Beach County Line in the Lighthouse Point, Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach area. 
 
The hearing will begin as an informal open house at 5:30 PM
A formal presentation will be made at 6 PM 
A public comment period will follow the presentation
 
Design plans and project information will be available for public viewing throughout the hearing.
 
Proposed improvements include:
Modifying the median to provide 5-foot wide bike lanes
Replacing traffic signals at the US 1 and NE 2 Street/Eller Street intersection
Adding street lighting at the US 1 and NE 2 Street/Eller Street intersection
Modifying the existing median opening at NE 41 Street/Vintage Drive to allow only left turns into the side street
Reconstructing curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards
Removing old asphalt and resurfacing existing pavement
 
Construction of the improvements is scheduled to begin in August 2019 with anticipated completion in August 2020. The estimated construction cost of these improvements is $6.5 million. 
 
This project is a partnership between FDOT, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the affected cities. The MPO is investing over $300 million to create safer, healthier communities in Broward County. This project is one of many within a larger plan to create enhanced bicycle, pedestrian, and public transportation access. The Broward MPO is a federally-mandated agency that is responsible for making decisions on local transportation issues and prioritizing how to spend federal funds on transportation projects.
