A few of the Waterford Home residents attended the informational meeting
with Commissioner Drosky, Hillary Silverstone, Sustainability Coordinator,
and a representative of Waste Management.  They said the Deerfield Residents
need to make a lot more improvements to the items they recycle.

Some of the things discussed are:

NO TOPS FOR BOTTLES - THROW ALL AWAY

NO PLASTIC FOOD CONTAINERS - EVEN IF YOU CLEAN THEM

NO PIZZA BOXES

NO STYROFOAM

NO HOSES 

NO PLASTIC BAGS OR ANY TYPE OF FILM

RINSE ALL FOOD FROM METAL CANS FROM THINGS LIKE VEGETABLES OR SOUP - THESE
CANS ARE ONE OF THE FEW ITEMS THAT ARE VALUABLE TO RECYCLING

ACCEPTABLE PLASTIC JUGS OR JARS ARE GOOD IF THE TOP OPENING IS SMALLER THAN
THE ACTUAL JUG

FLATTEN ALL CARDBOARD BOXES

Here is some more important information.

 

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS


Aluminum cans - empty 

Newspaper 


PET bottles w/ symbol #1 (screw tops only) - empty - throw away tops

Mail 


HDPE plastic bottles w/ symbol #2 (milk, water, detergent & shampoo bottles,
etc.) - empty - throw away tops

Magazines, glossy inserts, pamphlets & catalogs 


Plastic containers with symbols #3-#7 - empty (no expanded polystyrene) 

Uncoated paperboard (ex. cereal boxes; food & snack boxes - remove bags
inside the box) 


Steel and tin cans - empty and rinsed clean

Uncoated printing, writing and office paper 


Glass food and beverage containers (brown, clear, or green) - empty and
rinsed clean

Uncoated old corrugated containers/cardboard 


Phone books 



NOT ACCEPTABLE ITEMS

 


Plastic bags & bagged materials (even if containing Recyclables) 

Napkins, paper towels, tissue, paper plates, paper cups, & plastic utensils 


Mirrors 

Window or auto glass 


Light bulbs 

Coated cardboard 


Porcelain & ceramics 

Plastics unnumbered 


Expanded polystyrene 

Coat hangers - plastic or metal


Glass & metal cookware/bakeware 

Household appliances & electronics 


Hoses, cords, wires 

Yard waste, construction debris, & wood 


Flexible plastic or film packaging & multi-laminated materials 

Needles, syringes, IV bags or other medical supplies 


Food waste & liquids, containers containing such items 

Textiles, cloth, or any fabric (bedding, pillows, sheets, etc.) 


Hazardous materials

Any Recyclable materials or pieces of Recyclables less than 4" in size in
