> SW 10th Street Connector PD&E Study
> from Florida’s Turnpike/Sawgrass Expressway to SR 9/I-95
> Broward County| FPID No:439891-1-22-02
> The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) recently evaluated numerous alternatives as part of the SW 10th Street Connector Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study.
>
> After considering the various social, cultural, environmental and engineering factors with all of the alternatives, FDOT is recommending that the best option is the Partial Depressed - Westbound Exit Ramp Alternative.
>
>
> Alternative Overview
> Minimizes the extent of a depressed section
> Connector road remains at-grade
> A westbound exit ramp is formed on the left side of the westbound connector roads that passes under the at-grade eastbound managed lanes, and joins SW 10th Street as an outer third lane approaching Powerline Road
> Benefits
> Reduces congestion and delay along SW 10th Street which improves safety and air quality
> Provides a better regional transportation network and connection for emergency evacuation
> Decreases emergency response times
> Improves pedestrian and bicycle facilities along local SW 10th Street
> Provides opportunity for noise walls to be implemented alongside residential areas
>
> Reason for Selecting This Option
> Reduces construction time and complexity compared to other depressed roadway options
> Minimizes significant utility impacts compared to other depressed roadway options
> Minimizes business impacts by bridging over Powerline Road, primarily adjacent to industrial properties
> Includes entrance and exit ramps to and from SW 10th Street and the connector road, thereby improving the local intersection Level of Service (LOS) and providing better use of managed lanes, while offering the community direct managed lane access
> During extreme rain events, any flooding of the depressed ramp would not affect mainline traffic flow
> Most community sensitive alternative based on COAT recommendations and public feedback

>
> Project Overview
>
> Traffic volumes along the SW 10th Street Corridor have increased over the past 20 years and are forecasted to continue to increase due to population and economic growth within the entire county and region.
>
> FDOT, District Four, is conducting a PD&E Study to evaluate options for constructing a new managed-lanes connection between the Sawgrass Expressway and I-95, and an improved local SW 10th Street roadway for residents including improved bicycle lanes and sidewalks. The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Study previously developed recommendations that continue to be evaluated and incorporated wherever feasible.
