Project Spotlight
The SW 10th Street Connector project will provide a safe, efficient, and reliable transportation option. It is the missing link in the region’s major highway network. Some of the community benefits featured in the video include improved quality of life for residents, community-centric aesthetics, noise barrier walls where needed, and maintained access to all homes and businesses. All of these are made possible by the partnership between the Florida Department of Transportation, the City of Deerfield Beach, Broward MPO, Broward County, and other municipal partners.

The quality of life for residents will be improved by separating the highway traffic from the local SW 10th Street. A 12-foot wide shared-use path for bicyclist and pedestrians will be added. Along the path, there will be feature designs based on the community and enhanced landscape green space.

The SW 10th Street Connector project will help complete the missing link in the region’s limited access highway network by using innovative design and construction techniques. This will include improved intersections, rebuilding the local roadway, sustainable drainage, and more.

SW 10th Street Connector / I-95 Interchange: Looking West
Project Status and Process
Project Status
The SW 10th Street Connector project will take approximately 7 years to complete, including final design, permitting, and construction, and is currently on track to begin these activities by Fall 2024. The contractor team will begin by planning out all the construction activities, sequencing of work, and the entire project construction timeline. The pre-construction implementation planning phase will analyze the timing and sequencing of construction for the I-95 at SW 10th Street Interchange and the rest of the SW 10th Street corridor to the west. The intent is to identify which parts need to be constructed first for the most efficient work plan. The major roadway and bridge reconstruction activities are not expected to begin before 2026.
As the pre-construction planning work begins, FDOT will implement advanced traffic management and optimization technology, also known as “Smart Roads,” on select state roads surrounding the construction area. These technology advancements will support safe and efficient mobility in the area, helping to mitigate construction phase traffic congestion on I-95 and SW 10th Street.
Currently, advance utility relocation work is being performed on the north and south side of SW 10th Street between Powerline Road and Military Trail. The existing FPL transmission poles along the north side of SW 10th Street are being removed and replaced with lower height FPL distribution poles as part of clearing the right of way to accommodate the proposed noise barrier wall along the north side of the roadway. In addition, the FPL Transmission poles on the south side of SW 10th Street are being relocated to accommodate the SW 10th Street connector lanes and reconstructed local SW 10th Street lanes.

Community feedback is at the core of all we do. FDOT works with the public to balance their community vision with the community's transportation needs. This is routine on all of our projects to ensure that Florida's infrastructure is safe, resilient, and efficient for many years into the future.

More about the project:
As a key regional connection in Broward County, Florida, SW 10th Street currently serves as a critical transportation corridor for all types of traffic – including residential, commuter, commercial, truck, freight, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic. The SW 10th Street Connector Project will provide two roadways along SW 10th Street in Deerfield Beach, Florida. One roadway, the SW 10th Street Connector lanes, will improve regional connectivity by connecting the Sawgrass Expressway with I-95. The other roadway, local SW 10th Street, will become a “Complete Street” that will incorporate a shared-use path and provide connectivity to all existing local properties and the local roadway network.
