35th Annual Festival of the Arts

DEERFIELD BEACH – The Festival of the Arts makes its 35th showing here Saturday and Sunday, January 24th and 25th, when 125 artists display their talents along Ocean Way in a juried show.

The Festival will again take place south of the International Fishing Pier, located at 200 NE 21st Avenue in Deerfield Beach, providing a scenic background for the event which includes continuous live music, a variety of foods, adult refreshments, a student art exhibit and a kids’ zone.

John Goldacker, an artist from Merritt Island, FL will be available to sign the poster chosen for this year’s show. The colorful and original piece of art will be sold at the Cultural Committee booth along with t-shirts and memorabilia from the current year and previous years.

Exhibitors come from across the country, as far away as Arizona and Maine, but many are South Floridians and many are familiar faces who return year after year to this show.

The artist’s work in a variety of mediums: oils, acrylics, watercolor, photography, clay, pastels, gems and metals, glass, fabrics and fiber, wood and leather.

Food vendors range from such local favorites as Muddy Waters to Island Noodles to Real Cajun Cookin’ as well as the Deerfield Beach Rotary Club with its signature margaritas and rum runners.

Along with live music on the main stage, slide guitarist Kraig Kenning will perform all day on Ocean Avenue near Hillsboro Blvd. at the entrance to the festival. Kenning has been a featured player at the Festival for many years and has a strong following.

In the Kid’s Zone, Gabriela Gamperi will paint little faces and conduct an art project, and teens participating in the city’s Heart 4 Art program will exhibit their work. In a separate tent, students from several of the city’s elementary schools will display their talents.

The festival runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days and is produced by the Deerfield Beach Cultural Committee and the City of Deerfield Beach and supported by the business community.
