Interesting information from the District 4 meeting this week.

A couple in Deer Run suffered a different kind of scam against them.

A criminal went online and did a change of address with the Post Office and
all of their mail was forwarded to this criminal. The criminal tried 3
times to withdraw just under $5,000 (as $5,000 or more attracts the banks
attention). Luckily they found out about the scam and was able to stop the
withdrawals.

There was an indication that the mail was being forwarded when the post
office placed a sticker in their mail box which alerts the mail carrier not
to put anything in the box. They had seen the sticker but didn't know what
it meant as it only contained a bunch of numbers - nothing on it stated it
was for a change of address. When they hadn't received any mail for a
couple of days they asked their mail carrier and found out about the scam.

BE AWARE IF YOU HAVE A STICKER PLACED IN YOUR MAIL BOX - contact the post
office and BSO.

Captain Robert Schnakenberg reported on the large number of vehicle
burglaries continuing to being committed in Deerfield Beach. Most of the
problems start with cars being left unlocked. A number of the cars have had
GUNS including an attack riffle stolen. The victims stated they had
children in their home so they left their guns in their cars for safety.
PLEASE KEEP ME AND OTHER RESIDENTS SAFE

1. DO NOT LEAVE GUNS IN YOUR VEHICLES - have a gun safe in your home

2. LOCK YOUR CAR
