Military Trail Extension Improvements Project in Deerfield Beach

The Florida Department of Transportation has awarded a $1,298,980.58
contract to Horizon Contractors, Inc. to improve Military Trail / North
Andrews Avenue Extension from north of Sample Road to north of NW 33rd
Street in Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach. Construction will begin January
13, 2016 and is expected to be completed in fall 2016.

Project Improvements

- Installing new drainage system along the west side of Military Trail /
North Andrews Avenue Extension throughout the project limits and along
Sample Road approaching Military Trail / North Andrews Avenue Extension in
both directions.
- Adding four new retention areas to contain storm water
- Adding new sidewalk along the west side of Military Trail / North Andrews
Avenue Extension
- Upgrading sidewalks and ramps to meet ADA requirements at the Sample Road
intersection
- Installing new pedestrian countdown timer signals at the Sample Road
intersection
- Installing new traffic signal heads and realigning the existing signals at
the Sample Road intersection
- Adding a video vehicle detection camera for traffic on eastbound Sample
Road at Military Trail / North
Andrews Avenue Extension
- Installing 8 new light poles within the project limits
- Constructing a new bus bay on eastbound Sample Road east of Military Trail
/ North Andrews Avenue
Extension
- Widening southbound Military Trail / North Andrews Avenue Extension to
accommodate three through
lanes at Sample Road
- Removing old asphalt and resurfacing the roadway within the project limits
- Adding a five-foot bike lane along southbound Military Trail / North
Andrews Avenue Extension
- Upgrading signs and pavement markings within the project limits

Traffic Impact
- Daytime lane closures can be expected on Military Trail / North Andrews
Avenue Extension Monday through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
- Overnight lane closures can be expected on Sample Road and Military Trail
/ North Andrews Avenue Extension seven days a week between 10:30 p.m. and
6:30 a.m.
- Existing bus stops within the project limits will be temporary relocated
during construction.
